Programmer & Photographer

Welcome to my Website.

Why yet another website? The world is full of sites. Well, I pay for the domain and use subdomains as product support sites for ParX and PensioenProject, and for the Middelhoek family genealogy site Familie Middelhoek. The root domain must point somewhere, right? So, it points here. Now what to do with this empty canvas?

I am in the business of offering my programming skills to the highest bidder. OK, not the highest bidder per se, a project also has to pique my interest. That means that I am a bit eclectic when it comes to choosing programming languages, platforms and tooling. I wrote my first line of code in 1980 in ALGOL68 on a PDP11 and was hooked. So I have seen many languages and paradigms come and go, together with their fanatic disciples. I was into functional programming when it was just a spark in Backus' eye; even built my own domain-specific language called FUN. When Object-Oriented programming took over, I constructed my own objective layer on top of C. Then AI, expert-systems and rule-based programming became all the rage. And there I was again constructing a tower of Hanoi out of Lisp, Prolog and Scheme. Been there, done that, and got the T-shirt. Older and wiser (I hope), these days I tend to wait a little while before jumping on a brand-new bandwagon. With one exception: Swift. Within a month of its introduction, I was programming in version 1.0. Finally, a language that ticks all the right boxes. So, if anybody out there has a nice Swift project and needs some help, drop me a line…

Programming

My most loyal project is ParX, a modeling tool, containing some very nifty numerical-analysis algorithms, written in Swift. Now available in the Apple App Store.

Another perpetual project is PensioenProject, a SaaS application for the calculation and administration of pension insurance contracts.

Although my own projects keep me quite busy, I am occasionally available for contract work. You just have to find the right project to lure me in.

Photography

Landscape photography is my hobby and my passion. Not the easiest subject when residing in the Netherlands, where the horizon has been spoiled beyond repair. So most of my photography projects are located in the Alps. There I can roam free and only obsess about framing my shot and the “wrong” clouds. A portfolio of my best work can be found here. Also, my immersive 360° panoramas are located here; I couldn't find a better forum for now.

Browse and enjoy!
